

Tim Yu
Tim Yu studied at the University of Melbourne before completing his Bachelor of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2019 and his Masters of Music Studies (Performance) in 2021 with Alice Waten.
As a soloist, he has performed in masterclasses with Midori Gotō and Mauricio Fuks and was the winner of the 2018 Gisborne International Music Competition and 2021 Kendall National Violin Competition.
He was Concertmaster of the Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and has worked with Günter Pichler, Jun Iwasaki, Frank Huang, Oliver Wille, Marcus Becker, Daniel Müller-Schott and Storioni Trio in string quartets and piano trios. In 2019, Tim travelled with the Henderson Travellers Program, participating in a ProQuartet professional training course in Paris and the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland.



He was the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellow and Australian Chamber Orchestra Emerging Artist in 2020 and 2021, and went on to perform as a casual violinist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Opera Australia. He currently plays full time with the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Tim plays an 1850 violin ascribed to Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu 1740, assembled by John Lott circa 1850, kindly on loan from an anonymous Australian private benefactor.
