NoSax NoClar

Sydney Festival: NoSax NoClar

Sydney Festival presents NoSax NoClar's exhilarating form-bending French jazz at ACO On The Pier, for its 2025 program.

“At times the music achieved a surprising intensity, with both players firing off streams of notes in rapid circular patterns” – Jazz Journal

Born in 2020, NoSax NoClar brings together the freewheeling talents of saxophonist and clarinettist Bastien Weeger and beatboxer and bass clarinettist Julien Stella. With a sound that’s as mischievous as their name, the French duo have shaken up the global jazz scene with their virtuosic performances on high-profile stages across France, Finland, Germany, Italy and the UK.

Their sound represents contemporary jazz at its most agile and inventive, bringing in influences from folklore to Balkan, Celtic and Berber music.
NoSax NoClar’s debut album, 2020’s Kahmsïn, established their credentials on the international music scene – complete with a beautiful, filmed performance of the title track from the Notre-Dame de Bon-Port church in Nantes.

Following 2021’s Red Sisters, the duo returned to French jazz label Yolk Music for their third album, 2023’s No Dahïss. The most complete NoSax NoClar collection to date, No Dahïss blends lively, hard-hitting tracks where timbre, rhythm and melody are one.

This is world-class jazz – but not like you’ve heard it before.

Partial lockout applies – latecomers will be admitted at an appropriate break in the performance. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
