‘Poetry is an extraordinary kind of time machine we can enter and exit at any time.’ - Sarah Holland-Batt
Celebrate 20 years of Red Room Poetry at this gala event showcasing Australian poets and poetry in all of its forms as part of Poetry Month.
This year’s National Poetry Month Gala will be held at the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s new venue beside Sydney Harbour Bridge and features some of our finest contemporary poets including Jazz Money, Sara Saleh, Freya Daly Sadgrove (NZ) and Rebecca Shaw, 2023 Red Room Fellow Charmaine Papertalk Green, and the winner of the 2023 Stella Prize, Sarah Holland-Batt.
Hosted by Benjamin Law, the night also sees the likes of Jennifer Wong Paul Capsis, Chika Ikogwe, and John B. Fairfax AO reading contemporary Australian poems, as well as a musical performance by First Nations choir Mudjingaal Yangamba. This year’s special guest will be Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, reflecting on what poetry means to us as a country and reading a favourite poem.
There will also be pre-show foyer pop-up performances and bookshop, and the ACO bar will be open for drinks.
This event will be AUSLAN interpreted and live streamed via Red Room Poetry.
