About ACO Music & Movement Classes
ACO Music & Movement classes offer quality music learning experiences for children aged 2.5 - 5 years old, introducing musical concepts through singing, playing, and moving.
Research has shown that participating in music learning from a young age can improve a child’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development. These classes, led by our highly experienced early years music educator, Simona Green, use a combination of Dalcroze, Kodaly and Orff teaching methods and activities tailored specifically to the age and developmental stage of students. Class sizes are kept intentionally small so as each child can progress at their own pace.
Most importantly, ACO Music & Movement classes are fun and will ignite in your children what will hopefully be a life-long love of music. Classes focus on unconscious learning so that children are not inhibited by set musical ideas – allowing them to become creative musical thinkers before going on to more formal instrumental education.
We look forward to welcoming your family to ACO On The Pier to experience the life-changing impact of music.
How it works
There are three classes:
Green Class (2.5 – 3 year olds) Mondays, 9:30am – 10am
Red Class (3 – 4 year olds) Mondays, 10:15am – 11am
Blue Class (4 – 5 year olds) Mondays, 11:15am – 12pm
Orange Class (3 – 4 year olds) Mondays, 13:45pm – 14:30pm
Enrol your child in the relevant class for their age on a termly basis – this should be calculated as per their age at the start of each term.
If your child is on the cusp of an age group, please contact education@aco.com.au to discuss which class would be most suitable.
Classes
Green Class (2.5 – 3 year olds) Mondays, 9:30am – 10am
This 30-minute class for 2.5 – 3 year olds will start children on their music learning journey. Children will be introduced to basic musical concepts and will begin to develop their critical gross and fine motor skills through singing, rhythmic movement, simple percussion activities, action songs, finger play, and dramatization games.
In this class, accompanying adults are required to participate with children in activities. As children turn three, and depending on their confidence, they may start to participate in some activities independently.
Red Class (3 – 4 year olds) Mondays, 10:15am – 11am
In this 45-min class, children will begin to work more independently, continuing to develop their creativity and their understanding of musical concepts. The structure of the lesson involves a mix of singing, action songs, body percussion, rhythmic movement, and dramatisation of songs. Children will also be introduced to playing percussion instruments independently and using improvisation to express their creativity.
Involvement by accompanying adults may be required in movement activities, only if needed.
Blue Class (4 – 5 year olds) Mondays, 11:15am – 12pm
This 45-min class will see older children continuing the development of their musical understanding and skills through singing, rhythmic movement, playing percussion instruments, and dramatization to music. Classes will involve elements of improvisation and creative self-expression and children will be encouraged to work much more independently.
There is continued focus on unconscious learning and the development of broad musical thinking and skills before children move onto more formal instrumental lessons in the future.
Orange Class (3 – 4 year olds) Mondays, 13:45pm - 14:30pm NEW CLASS
In this 45-min class, children will begin to work more independently, continuing to develop their creativity and their understanding of musical concepts. The structure of the lesson involves a mix of singing, action songs, body percussion, rhythmic movement, and dramatisation of songs. Children will also be introduced to playing percussion instruments independently and using improvisation to express their creativity.
Involvement by accompanying adults may be required in movement activities, only if needed.
