“Beethoven was completely ahead of his time. The path that he paved through his chamber music – from his sonatas, to his piano trios and string quartets – transformed what was possible in our artform and, in a way, we’re still trying to catch up with him, over 200 years later.” – ACO Principal Cello Timo-Veikko ‘Tipi’ Valve.
BEETHOVEN ARRANGED BY BEETHOVEN
Featuring a stellar line-up of ACO musicians, this special chamber performance presents the rare opportunity to hear Beethoven’s own arrangements of two of his most popular chamber works: the Piano Trio in C minor and the fiery ‘Kreutzer’ sonata. Through expanding these pieces into string quintets, Beethoven transformed the Trio into a glorious string symphony and the ‘Kreutzer’ into a concerto for five virtuosic soloists, emphasising the work’s stormy turbulence and soaring lines to breathtaking effect.
