DIVE IN: Arvo Pärt & JS Bach

Of all Bach’s output, it is his religious vocal music that epitomises what music truly meant to him. Most of these motets are written for funerals, but traverse a world of ideas and meanings in Bach’s search for the spiritual heart of human existence.

Da pacem Domine was commissioned by early music specialist Jordi Savall in memory of the 2004 Madrid train bombings. It has since been reworked for various combinations of choir and string orchestra, but maintains a sublimely meditative, timeless quality that is the antidote to troubled times.
