ACO 2024 Season: Musicians' Highlights

Our musicians let us in on what they're most looking forward to in the ACO 2024 Season.

In our 2024 season we will welcome old friends and new friends, including some of the most thrilling artists on the world stage today.

And we'll perform celebrated classics along with the sounds of tomorrow in the kinds of vibrant collaborations the ACO has become known for.

We have asked our musicians to let us in on what they are most looking forward to next year.

ACO 2024 Season
Richard Tognetti

'The power of live music'

Richard Tognetti, Artistic Director

“In 2024 experience a season that celebrates the pure power of live music, and the one thing that makes it all possible – you, our audience.”
Helena Rathbone

'Welcoming back Kristian Bezuidenhout'

Helena Rathbone, ACO Principal Violin

I am really looking forward to welcoming back the wonderful Kristian Bezuidenhout to direct a program which features Beethoven’s mighty 'Emperor' concerto paired with music that both inspired and was inspired by Beethoven.
Satu Vanska

'Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde'

Satu Vänskä, ACO Principal Violin

“My highlight is Mahler’s Song of the Earth. It’s special for us to play this monumental, epic piece. We performed it years ago at Edinburgh Festival and dreamed of bringing it to Australia. I love getting lost in the spell of the fantasy; 60 minutes of magic.”
Ilya Isakovich

'Playing with Nicolas Altstaedt'

Ilya Isakovich, ACO Violin

“I am looking forward to playing with Nicolas Altstaedt next year. Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations is one of my favourite pieces, and it also featured on my first ever concert with the ACO in 2004!”
Stefanie Farrands

'Falling deep into the world of Mahler'

Stefanie Farrands, ACO Principal Viola

“I’m looking forward to falling into the world of Mahler during our Song of the Earth tour. I’m always fascinated when a composer arranges the music of other composers, Schoenberg has done here.”
Julian Thompson

I can't wait for ACO's collaboration with Sean Shibe

Julian Thompson, ACO Cello

“I can’t wait for our collaboration with the extraordinary Sean Shibe. His guitar wizardry and musical creativity are astounding and I’ve long had a soft spot for a cracking Scottish folk tune with a tang of haggis.”
Melissa Barnard

'The charismatic and intense cellist Nicolas Altstaedt'

Melissa Barnard, ACO Cello

There are many highlights… playing with charismatic and intense cellist Nicolas Altstaedt as he directs Haydn and Tchaikovsky; the pure heaven that's Beethoven’s ‘Emperor’ Concerto; working with genre-bending guitarist Sean Shibe...”
